Our Process

The Coach's Kitchen

Every product we recommend goes through The Coach's Kitchen, our in-house testing process. Real purchases, real kitchens, and a scoring framework built on years of coaching clients through weight loss.

Testing Philosophy

We Test the Way Our Clients Live

A product that impresses on day one but fails in week three fails our test. Our clients do not eat in a lab. They eat on night shifts, school runs, and stressful weeks. Products earn their place by surviving that life.

Every category runs through the same six pillars, adapted to what that product is actually for. A protein bar and a salad dressing get judged by the same standards, applied to different jobs.

Why We Built This

Most Roundups Are Written From a Search Results Page

Nobody bought anything. Nobody opened a package. Karen and I built The Coach's Kitchen because our clients kept buying products that looked right on screen and failed in real life.

We buy every product at full retail price, the same way you would. No brand knows we are testing until the article is live.

Scoring Framework

The Six Pillars

Diet Fit & Macros

We check every label line by line against the diet's actual rules. A product that fights the plan's macros fails here no matter how good it tastes.

Real-World Use

We sample products in our own kitchen: taste, texture, convenience, and the week-three test. A product that only impresses on day one drops in the rankings.

Ingredient Quality

We look for hidden sugars, heavy sodium loads, filler ingredients, and serving-size games. Clean short labels win points, vague ones lose them.

Value per Serving

We compare price per serving across the whole category, checked at publish time. A great product at an unfair price gets called out.

Buyer Review Verification

We read hundreds of verified buyer reviews per category, one-star complaints first. When buyers report a pattern, we test whether it holds up.

Transparency & Trust

Brands with vague labels, shrinking portions, or misleading claims lose points. Honest packaging and consistent products earn them.

Independence

Who Pays for This

No brand has paid to appear on Optimal Weight Plan. No brand has provided free samples, payment, or editorial input. We use affiliate links, which earn us a small commission at no cost to you. Those links never influence scores or rankings.

We coach the Optavia program, now Trilivy. When a list includes that program's own products, we say so in the article and score them under the same protocol as everyone else. Where they lose points, their entry says so.

Who Tests

The Coaches Behind the Kitchen

Tamera

Founder and weight loss coach. Tamera was a client before she was a coach, and she runs the tastings and real-world use tests. She scores every product on how it fits a real week, not a perfect one.

Karen

Coach and the kitchen's record keeper. Karen tracks prices, serving costs, and label checks, and she keeps the running list of what clients ask between calls. Close calls get retested before she signs off.

Questions About a Pick?

If a product on one of our lists let you down, we want to know. Client feedback has changed our rankings before and it will again.
